Vitalii Mykolenko has just extended his contract at Everton.

David Moyes and his Everton chiefs have decided to extend Vitalii Mykolenko’s contract, keeping him at the club until 2029.

Mykolenko, speaking to the club’s website, said: “For me, it’s most important to feel confident and feel comfortable in the environment and I have that here, so I’m really happy.”

There has been some criticism over the new contract, as a section of the fanbase feel he’s quite simply not up to standard.

That said, Alan Myers has just come out and defended Mykolenko and rightly condemned those who are crossing the line in their criticisms.

Myers took to X last night and stated he was ‘sad’ to see a minority of fans ‘abusing’ Mykolenko after penning his new contract at Everton.

“It’s sad to see some of the reactions to Mykolenko’s new deal, I get that he’s no Leighton Baines (not many are) but the lad gives everything whenever he wears the shirt,” Myers wrote.

“It’s ok to have an opinion on what you think of his performance but some of what I’ve seen is disrespectful.”

The journalist added: “Just to clarify, my point is not about whether you feel Myko’s good enough or not, it’s about abusing players who represent the club professionally and fully committed.

“Have an opinion on him as a player by all means but abusing helps nobody.”

How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩

Mykolenko has been a solid servant for the Toffees, and he certainly has a role to play, but from a footballing perspective, he can be upgraded.

Since joining well over four years ago, the left-back has registered just four assists for the club, which is staggering.

For Moyes’ side to really progress to the next level, they should be in the market for a more attack-minded full-back who can provide a threat going forward.
