Charly Alcaraz could leave Everton as 38-time league champions make contact

Charly Alcaraz is the subject of interest from one of his former clubs, following a season where he struggled for minutes for Everton.

David Moyes showed a real reluctance to rotate during the final weeks of the 2025/26 season, and that arguably cost the Toffees in the end.

If you were Angus Kinnear who would you be going all out for this summer? 💰

European football had been on, but Moyes sticking with players and running them into the ground did not help, with the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall particularly struggling by the end.

Charly Alcaraz was one player who mainly had to watch proceedings from the bench.

The Argentine has struggled with a couple of injuries.

But seemingly he isn’t a key player for Moyes – and he is now the subject of an enquiry from River Plate.

Charly Alcaraz wanted by former club River Plate

It has been claimed on X by Argentine journalist German Garcia Grova that Everton have now received an approach from River Plate regarding the availability of Alcaraz.

He says that they’ve asked about the conditions for the attacking midfielder, who only made 20 Premier League appearances in 2025/26.

Everton are apparently yet to respond to the enquiry.

38-time league title winners River are actually not the first club from Argentina to show interest in Alcaraz this summer.

Last month, it was suggested Racing Club were also keen to sign Alcaraz amid his struggle for minutes.

So that’s two of his former clubs who are now showing an interest, and it will be interesting to see how much Everton will demand.

Alcaraz’s contract at Everton only has a year left to run, although the club do hold an option to extend it by a further 12 months.

His loan move from Flamengo was turned permanent last summer and it’s thought the club paid about £13 million (via ESPN).

So Everton would perhaps at least want to make their money back if they were to sell.

Alcaraz finds himself in a tricky spot, with Dewsbury-Hall ahead of him in the pecking order.

How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩

He should have played more towards the end of 2025/26 when Dewsbury-Hall’s form dipped, but undoubtedly the Englishman has proven to be a top signing and is a better player.

Then there are other options like Harrison Armstrong, and Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish can also pick up those central attacking midfield positions.

And there is also the possibility that Hayden Hackney comes in, which would further complicate matters for Alcaraz.
