Everton are exploring a deal to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney.

David Moyes’ side are clearly looking to sign a long-term successor to Idrissa Gana Gueye, whose contract expires this summer.

Everton have already had offers rejected for Hackney, with the Championship outfit holding out for bids in the region of £20m.

How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩

That said, local Boro reporter Dominic Shaw has now provided a fresh update on the Hackney deal and what Everton are planning to do next.

Dominic Shaw explains latest development on Everton’s bid to sign Hayden Hackney

Shaw reports that Everton’s second bid for Hackney went in on Monday and they’re now pondering on whether to make a third bid whilst several other clubs circle.

Writing on his X account, the Boro journalist stated: “Boro knocked back second approach from Everton for Hayden Hackney on Monday.

“Toffees now weighing up next move. Crystal Palace preparing a bid worth £20m, reports @BobbyManzi.

“At least half a dozen Premier League clubs monitoring situation.”

Are there any players from the relegated clubs you want to see Everton go after this summer? 🤔

It’s understood that the Toffees’ latest offer was worth around £15m, which is still well short of Boro’s demands.

Hull City, following their promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, are the most recent club to register their interest in Hackney.

They join Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Fulham, Brentford and Crystal Palace.

So, quite clearly, Everton have stiff competition to land the 23-year-old’s signature, although they hold a key advantage.

Hackney wants to join the Toffees to play under Moyes, so they could actually win the race without being the highest bid.
