Everton’s £15million error back in August 2022 could have played a significant part in their second points deduction.
The Toffees were docked two points by the Premier League on Monday after posting losses over the £105million threshold for a three-year period.
Everton breached by £16.6million and, as a result, sit 16th in the league standings, just two points above the relegation zone. The saga is far from finished, with fresh talk over a third hearing during the summer.
However, any issues over the summer are believed to be solely focused on Everton’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
The club will undoubtedly regret some of their transfer dealings in 2022.
Neal Maupay transfer error now laid bare at Everton

Neal Maupay, for example, was signed for £15million in July 2022. Therefore, the Frenchman’s move to Goodison Park would have fallen within the second PSR assessment period under scrutiny.
Had that transfer fee been withheld, Everton could have found themselves far closer to the limit, perhaps escaping punishment.
Maupay scored just two goals for the Toffees in a miserable stint on Merseyside. It was £15million, which could have been extremely handy in relation to Everton’s second charge.
More care must be taken in the future.
Everton admit they made Neal Maupay error
The Athletic reported that there’s an acceptance that Maupay’s move didn’t work out from a purely footballing perspective.
Now, after Monday’s revelation, it’s a move that could have impacted the club off the field.
Frank Lampard even suggested the £15million signing struggled from the off during his time at Goodison Park.
He told YouTube Channel, JOE: “I wanted to change the way we played – Tarkwoski came on a free, Coady came in on loan – but in that second season, as we tried to progress, Dominic got injured in pre-season, and Neal Maupay came and struggled to get in there, so we were playing without an effective number nine.”
The sooner Maupay is moved on permanently, the better for all parties.
