Despite some disappointing results, Sean Dyche has made some positive changes at Everton this season.

After a dreadful start to the season, Everton have put together a decent run of form in recent weeks. There have also been signs that Sean Dyche has hit upon a tactical approach that is working for the Toffees.

The fact that Everton have generated such a high xG figure over the course of their eight Premier League matches so far shows that they are creating plenty of goalscoring opportunities. The return to form and fitness of Dominic Calvert-Lewin has also come at a perfect time.

Everton have now built a platform that Dyche will be desperate for them to build on after the international break.

In the meantime, this pause in Premier League proceedings is an opportune moment to consider what Dyche has gotten right so far this season.

Three things Sean Dyche has got right this season

Defensive reshuffle

After a poor start to the season, Dyche quickly dropped Michael Keane to the bench and put his faith in Jarrad Branthwaite. After impressing whilst on loan with PSV Eindhoven last season, the 21-year-old has kicked on again at Goodison Park. Everton have a future star on their hands in the England under-21 international.

Unleashing Abdoulaye Doucoure

Abdoulaye Doucoure is Everton’s top goalscorer so far this season, with three Premier League strikes to his name. The 30-year-old, who arrived on Merseyside in a £20 million deal from Watford in 2020, has been given license to get forward from midfield more than ever before by Dyche this season.

James Garner handed some responsibility

After a quiet first season at Everton following his £15 million move from Manchester United, James Garner is now starting to flourish for the Toffees. Deployed on the wing and centrally, he has risen to whatever task Dyche has set for him. The manager deserves credit for putting his faith in the 22-year-old.
