£25m Everton player in potential England call-up boost as Thomas Tuchel demanded his signing in 2021

Everton fans may have welcomed last month’s international break, but this ongoing one has been nothing more than an inconvenience.

After all, the first time, they were coming off the back of three straight losses in the Premier League, having just thrown away a 2-0 lead in their most recent defeat.

A hiatus from club football was not only welcomed, but celebrated.

However, this time around, they have instead enjoyed a three-game run avoiding defeat, picking up their first win of the campaign too.

The hope is that they can maintain this run, starting on Saturday, dusting off any cobwebs that the international break may have incurred.

However, it has not been a completely dull past week, with some big news for those who follow England…

Thomas Tuchel agrees to be new England boss

After all, it was agreed that the Three Lions would finally be under new permanent management, with former Everton man Lee Carsley having failed his audition.

Losing to Greece at Wembley, in a pitiful display where the visitors ran riot, it really could have been four or five despite just a last-minute winner separating the sides.

And whilst he would regain some credit with a routine win over Finland, the damage was done.

The time for sentimentality was over, and the FA made their decision. Thomas Tuchel was to be the new England boss.

It is a decision that has already split opinions, for various reasons, but there is surely one man within Everton’s dressing room who will relish this choice.

Thomas Tuchel once demanded Dominic Calvert-Lewin transfer

After all, it is just three years since the German, back during his spell with Chelsea, actually demanded his transfer.

Having just won the Champions League against all the odds, he wanted to bolster his squad significantly, with the Blues having seen their transfer ban finally relinquished.

Well, he saw Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the perfect spearhead for this revolution, as journalist Ekrem Konur wrote at the time: ‘Dissatisfied with #TammyAbraham and #Batshuayi, #Tuchel asked for the transfer of Dominic #Calvert-Lewin, with the exception of Erling #Haaland.

‘There have been no formal talks with #Everton yet but talks are expected to begin soon.’

Chelsea wanted Calvert-Lewin this summer too, ironically, but no move materialised, with the £25m price tag proving too far away from the £12.5m the West London outfit were willing to pay.

However, as an Englishman with 11 caps to his name, Tuchel’s appointment will be music to Calvert-Lewin’s ears.

If he wanted him so badly at club level, there’s no reason why, should he pick up some form for Everton, he cannot force his way back into the national team setup.
