Everton have had their fair share of hit-and-miss transfers over the years, with plenty of money spent along the way.
Farhad Moshiri’s ownership can undoubtedly be culpable for several of the more disappointing additions coming through the door at Goodison Park.
And one name certainly stands out in recent years.
Dele Alli completed move to Merseyside in January 2022 in a deal that could have reached £40million (Sky Sports).
It’s fair to say Alli has failed to get his career back on track; it’s probably declined further.
The former Tottenham midfielder has made just 13 appearances during his two years at Goodison Park.

He was also shipped out on loan to Besiktas, where he made 15 appearances before falling severely out of favour.
The 27-year-old has yet to feature for Sean Dyche’s side this season, having failed to make an appearance for over 11 months.
After Dyche’s latest comments, the midfielder is surely heading for the Goodison Park exit door.
Sean Dyche explains latest on Dele Alli injury
Speaking to The Daily Mail, Dyche revealed that Alli is unlikely to feature this season after undergoing groin surgery in January.
“We’ll see. There’s a long way to go. We’ve deliberately kept him back; we agreed with him to give him time and space. Hopefully he’ll be back, we just don’t know,” said Dyche (via The Daily Mail).
“We’ve given him the privacy he needs at this time. He’s in good shape. I spoke to him recently, and we had a good long conversation with him.”
This could prove to be the end of Alli’s Goodison Park career.
His current contract expires in the summer, and the prospect of a renewal seems extremely unlikely.
Alli’s wages need to be shifted off the books, and allowing him to depart for nothing seems like a sensible solution.
The 27-year-old was even spotted watching his old club, Tottenham, play instead of Everton’s most Premier League defeat to Manchester City.
It’s hard to predict Alli’s next move. Ross Barkley’s renaissance with Luton Town could provide him with some inspiration. The former Everton star has turned his career around after a difficult time with Chelsea and has emerged as one of the Hatters’ most important players upon their Premier League return.
Ultimately, Alli has to show some desire to turn his career around – and returning to full fitness during the summer months is the first place to start.
