£30m Everton target back on the market as transfer to join Champions League club collapses at last minute

Everton have a finishing problem that seems unlikely to change despite a summer that seemed set to usher in revolution.

Welcoming back Jack Harrison alongside other attacking additions like Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom promised some kind of fresh impetus in their frontline, after a season where they created so much but failed to find the net so often.

Their 40 Premier League goals was a tally only one scored less than, yet their expected goals of 60.75 outlined the biggest differential from reality.

Whether that be misfortune or a lack of quality is still up for debate, but the longer this issue persists, the more the latter becomes the far more likely explanation.

Something has to change, and Kevin Thelwell might have just been given the final push he needs to go and try and find that solution.

Armando Broja’s transfer falls through

That’s at least what’s being reported by CaughtOffside, who have provided the latest update on Chelsea’s plans for the end of the summer window.

With more incomings almost definitely expected, and outgoings a must given how bloated their squad is, there are a few clubs who might be able to capitalise on the mess currently being cultivated in West London.

Everton’s interest in Armando Broja has been well-documented, but thus far there has been little movement due to his lofty £30m price tag.

However, with what this latest report has suggested, the Toffees could now swoop in for a cut price, buoyed by the knowledge that the Blues might be more desperate to sell after the Albanian’s proposed move to AC Milan fell through.

It reads: ‘Broja to Milan unlikely now – Broja could also be on the move to another Premier League club as he’s eyed by both Ipswich Town and Everton, with a move to AC Milan no longer looking likely.’

Should Everton swoop for Armando Broja?

Whilst a new striker might be the answer for Everton, given how Dominic Calvert-Lewin has struggled in recent years, Broja is hardly the surefire answer to their finishing problems.

After all, the 22-year-old has only really had two standout seasons, and one of those was a six-goal haul in the Premier League for a lacklustre Southampton team.

Other than that, he has struggled for minutes and form, despite Broja boasting all the physical attributes needed to thrive within a Sean Dyche system.

He is tall, fast and physical, but has yet to showcase enough proficiency to warrant anything near the price Chelsea want for him.

Perhaps they might be better served going elsewhere in the hope that they can snag a lethal finisher to answer their prayers at last.
