£43m West Ham call now gives Everton second chance to sign striker who was keen to join

Everton could do with another striker.

David Moyes is yet to see much success from Thierno Barry following his £27.6m move from Villarreal in July – the Frenchman has netted just three goals in 20 Premier League appearances.

Beto is also struggling, scoring only twice in 20 games for Everton this season.

Everton were interested in bringing Callum Wilson to the Hill Dickinson Stadium after Newcastle released him at the end of last season, and the Toffees now seemingly have another chance to land the England international.

West Ham now ready to offload Callum Wilson after Everton missed out in August

Claret & Hugh now state that West Ham are expected to let the 33-year-old leave this month, after spending £25.2m and £17.4m on the signings of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe respectively.

Would YOU take Callum Wilson at Everton? 🤔

Both are strikers, and Nuno Espirito Santo even dropped Wilson from his squad entirely for the first time this season on Tuesday night against Nottingham Forest to make space for the new £42.6m arrivals.

The West Ham No.9 signed a heavily incentivised contract with the Hammers in August after leaving Newcastle, which is presumably made up largely of appearance fees and goal bonuses – meaning the man born in Coventry is likely to be paid very little if he rarely features.

It comes after Everton News were informed back in June that Wilson was open to teaming up with Moyes on Merseyside as the Toffees explored a deal – before ultimately losing out to West Ham.

Now, however, Everton are set to get a second chance to sign the man with four goals in 17 Premier League appearances so far this season, a respectable tally given West Ham’s struggles and the fact he is now 33 years of age.

Everton must consider six-month deal for Callum Wilson

With Barry and Beto only managing to score one more goal together this term than Wilson has managed on his own, it feels like a no-brainer to offer the West Ham outcast a contract.

Name some things more likely than Thierno Barry scoring 11+ goals this season… 😬

He'd need some second half to the term to reach those numbers…

Of course, we are not suggesting a lengthy deal for a man who turns 34 in February and has historically struggled with injuries, but a short-term contract until the summer seems absolutely worthwhile.

Wilson can boast 92 goals in 256 Premier League appearances, meaning he can use his vast experience to help the 23-year-old Barry adjust to the demands of English football, while also acting as a reliable option for Moyes himself.
