777 Partners now hit with fresh Everton takeover blow as investors snub offer

Amidst the mass protests and the return of club football, it could be easy to forget that Everton are in the middle of a takeover.

777 Partners had agreed a deal to assume full control over the Toffees back in September, but hitting hurdle after hurdle has unsurprisingly seen the process hampered. They also still await the Premier League’s verdict on their capability as prospective owners, which has been another factor slowing everything down.

At this point, it would be preferable if the division could just make their decision known so as to allow the club to move forward with a clear vision, instead of being kept under the temporary leadership of a man who so clearly wants out.

Farhad Moshiri has made his desire to sell common knowledge, and the Miami-based firm have affirmed their interest with numerous appearances at a few games now.

However, they have just recently suffered a fresh setback in their pursuit of additional funding for their overhaul, with journalist Alan Nixon offering an update on his Patreon.

He would write: ‘Everton takeover bidders 777 Partners have been snubbed in a move to bring wealthy Andy Bell and George Downing into their camp. The pair have around £80 million in loans due to them as a part of the project to build a new stadium.

‘And the Americans asked if they would like to become part of their group – only to be told no by pensions guru Bell and property developer Downing.’

What’s the latest with 777 Partners’ Everton takeover?

With a complete timeline of events having been detailed ever since that September agreement, it is tough to pin down exactly where we are with the current takeover.

Having seen off new mystery buyers, welcomed in new faces to the group and even been handed a show of faith by the FA, it has been a tumultuous and ever-changing scenario in which nothing ever seems to be set in stone.

Everton’s’ recent points deduction should outline this, with few expecting that outcome for such a minor misdemeanour.

However, seeing both Josh Wander and Don Dransfield present at yesterday’s game with Manchester United can only suggest that a deal is still ticking along.

Having remained undeterred by every stumbling block they have faced thus far, there is a certain element of respect for how desperate they seem to be to acquire the club.
