Transfer news has linked Everton with a move for Premier League defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips and journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on this potential signing.

It was reported earlier this week by iNews that Everton, as well as Newcastle, were interested in Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Writing in his daily briefing on Caught Offside about Kalvin Phillips Romano provided a transfer update. He said: “Despite links with Newcastle and Everton, I’m not aware of concrete talks on this one”

“Phillips wanted to stay at City this summer despite some approaches, so he’s still focused on doing his best for City and then a decision will be made later, like November or December.”

Phillips, who is an English international and who won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup with Manchester City last season is no doubt a good player.

Despite this, his lack of minutes since joining the Premier League title holders should definitely be something that puts Everton off the possible transfer.

For now though, it looks like this transfer saga around the ‘fantastic‘ player could go on for a while, with no decisions being made until November or December.

This shouldn’t worry Everton as arguably the midfield is one of their stronger positions in the squad at this current time.

With midfielders Abdoulaye Doucoure, James Garner and Amadou Onana all having a good start to the season, it currently feels like Everton manager Sean Dyche has top quality in the same position as Phillips.

It will be interesting to see what decision is made by Phillips over his future as his lack of game time will no doubt be a big worry for him.
