Everton defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.

David Moyes’ side were well worth the three points as they were the better side pretty much from the first minute.

“It was a really good performance right from the kick-off,” the Everton boss said.

“I thought that for long periods of the game we looked as if we were probably on top. There were one or two small periods just before halftime, but I thought in the main, first half, and probably second half as well, certainly we played better.”

Abdoulaye Doucoure rounded off the superb away performance with a well-taken stoppage-time winner, assisted by Dwight McNeil.

Doucoure, speaking post-match, revealed the heartwarming reason why he changed his celebration.

Why Abdoulaye Doucoure changed his celebration

Doucoure is expected to leave Goodison Park at the end of the season, however, that was brought into doubt after he referenced signing a contract in his celebration yesterday.

The Everton midfielder proceeded to do a golf swing, and speaking to the media after the game, he revealed that he was asked by schoolchildren to do it.

“I met some kids before this week and they asked me to do a celebration if I score and I did it for them.”

Doucoure added: “Sometimes you have the feeling, I think I have the feeling today that I’m going to score.”

It seems the signing of the contract reference was off Doucoure’s own back, so clearly it’s a nod to say he’d like a new deal.

Doucoure admits he wants to stay

Sure enough, Doucoure announced that he wants to stay at Everton as he loves the club, having spent nearly five years on Merseyside.

“I love this club,” the former Watford man said.

“Since the moment I signed, always I want to stay. My contract is running out so let’s see what happens in the next couple of weeks but I love this club.”

Everton are looking at Andy Diouf, who is impressing in France with RC Lens, so it seems the club are already lining up his replacement, making a new deal unlikely.

A number of Premier League clubs are showing an interest in Doucoure, so he won’t be short of options.
