Everton were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace on Monday evening at Goodison Park.

After a turgid first half, Jordan Ayew’s strike sparked the fixture into life, with Sean Dyche’s side in search of their first win of 2024.

Amadou Onana’s towering header salvaged a point for the Toffees, who moved out of the relegation zone and above Luton Town.

The Everton boss rang the changes in the second half, introducing Onana, Jack Harrison and Beto.

Talking on Sky Sports commentary, Alan Smith was full of praise for Harrison, who provided several dangerous crosses into the Crystal Palace box.

The Leeds United loanee produced an excellent cross deep into injury time, which gained plenty of recognition from the Sky Sports commentator.

“We’ve seen some crosses tonight, but this is the best of the bunch,” he said (live on Sky Sports).

“It’s brilliant from Harrison. Absolutely outstanding. It deserved a blue-shirted player getting on the end of that, absolute beauty.”

It was an excellent cameo from the winger, who was signed for £11million by Leeds United in July 2021.

Crucial week ahead for Everton

The draw against Palace starts what could be a significant week in the club’s recent history.

Everton are set to find out whether their appeal against their 10-point deduction has been successful.

Dyche alluded to the subject during his post-match interview on Monday evening.

“I don’t know the dates; we’re just waiting. For the good of football, I think it needs to be speedier for everyone,” he told BBC Sport.

“I don’t think anyone wants them dragged out; whatever it’s going to be, let’s get on with it. It’s not in my hands, though. Who knows.”

Furthermore, 777 Partners’ are still waiting for Premier League approval nearly five months after formally announcing their proposed takeover.

The sooner both issues are cleared up, the better.

Dyche and the players need to know where they stand regarding their points tally, and the delay has been, quite frankly, unacceptable.
