Anthony Gordon’s departure from Everton left a sour taste in the mouth for all involved.
The manner of the 23-year-old’s exit was far from ideal, with the winger pushing for a move to the North East.
However, there is probably an understanding that the move was best for all concerned, particularly with issues that arose with the fanbase towards the back end of this Goodison Park career.

In a recent interview with The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, the winger claimed the “scouse environment” made him believe he had to be an “antagonist”.
Anthony Gordon makes ‘aggressive’ Everton claim
Gordon said to Hope, “The environment I was in at Everton, that Scouse environment, it’s very aggressive. When teams came to Goodison, I felt a responsibility to be the antagonist.”
The 23-year-old feels his move to St James’ Park has provided him with more security.
He added: “I have more security in myself now, I have grown into who I want to be. I’m more focused on changing that perception because I feel I’m in a place to do so.”

Strong claims from Gordon
These are some strong claims from the Newcastle United winger, and some of his words may be an excuse for his behaviour.
He has always been a controversial character; he shouldn’t be blaming Evertonians for that.
The move has worked out well. He’s enjoying his football and staking a claim for an England starting berth at the European Championships this summer.
As for Everton, the Toffees have landed themselves a decent transfer fee and managed to get a player – who didn’t want to stay – off their books.
