Alan Pardew admits to one major fear for Everton

Former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has admitted he has a major worry about Everton.

Everton have endured a difficult start to the Premier League season. With seven games played, the Toffees have racked up just four pints, and Sean Dyche’s position in the Goodison Park dugout may soon come under serious threat.

Things took another turn for the worse for Everton on Saturday afternoon, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at home against newly promoted side Luton Town. The result marked the first Premier League win in the Hatters’ history.

Despite a couple of positive recent results, the mood at Everton is low. On top of that, the Merseyside club are in financial difficulty, and the future of the ownership remains up in the air.

Those financial factors are a major concern for Pardew, as they will be for fans and many figures at the club.

Speaking on TalkSport, Pardew said, “the one worry I have for Everton is the ownership, more so than the manager, because I think the manager is experienced enough and I think there’s enough good players in the dressing room to stay in that division.”

“There is this financial cloud that hangs over them, in terms of a new takeover maybe, or you know, some sort of penalty…all these sort of doubts about that great club.”

Everton must lay foundations for success at Goodison Park

The chief concern and priority this season needs to be avoiding relegation from the Premier League. Falling out of the top flight would be a financial disaster for Everton, especially with a state-of-the-art new stadium on the way.

With the stakes this high, Dyche needs to quickly prove that he is the right man for the job of keeping the club in the top flight where they belong.

To convince Everton fans of that, he must improve their home form. Everton are yet to pick up a point at Goodison Park this season. That stadium needs to become something of a fortress for them.

Equally, the players need to take responsibility for the poor state of affairs on the pitch. There is plenty of experience in this squad. The team leaders need to stand up and be counted.
