Ally McCoist has been looking ahead to Everton’s match tonight, which could have huge repercussions in the relegation battle.

All but one of the six most at-risk clubs are actually in action, and will be seeking to claim huge victories which could completely change the landscape at the bottom of the table.

It promises to be a tough task for the Toffees though, who will be welcomed by a Newcastle United side fresh from their miraculous comeback against West Ham United.

One pundit, looking ahead to the match, has now outlined a fresh concern that Evertonians should have…

Ally McCoist gives Everton cause for concern

Speaking live on talkSPORT earlier this morning (02/04, 9:05 am), Jeff Stelling asked his co-host, McCoist, for his thoughts on those in the relegation zone.

Seeing to preview Everton’s huge clash in particular at St James’ Park, the former Sky Sports Soccer Saturday host asked just how big he felt the match was.

The Scotsman replied: Listen mate, I’m looking at it right now, it’s massive. Absolutely massive.

‘Forest, Everton, I mean Luton again at the weekend everybody was saying: ‘Luton really unlucky, Rob Edwards what a job he’s doing and he is doing’. But the unfortunate thing for Luton, they need to start picking up points where they’re losing late equalisers and late goals for opposition to win games.

‘I really enjoy them but they need to start picking up points.

‘Everton, the uncertainty as well. You know, they’ve already lost points. Forest a question mark over them. Are Brentford out of it? You look at that performance at the weekend, you’d have to say yes. But their recent record hasn’t been good.

‘I think all of those fans should be concerned.’

Sean Dyche could take the game to Newcastle United tonight

Although they are huge underdogs tonight, that should be a position that Sean Dyche seeks to lean into rather than use as an excuse to remain frightful.

After all, they are never going to escape the drop if they continue playing so conservatively, because they have simply not been solid enough since the turn of the year, and are unsurprisingly nowhere near the level offensively either.

Not only that, but the Magpies they are set to face tonight are a far cry from the one they dismantled earlier in the campaign at Goodison Park.

Ravaged by injuries and suspension, they will almost definitely be without a huge portion of their first team.

There will arguably be no better time to take the game to Newcastle United, forcing them to run that little bit harder than they want to given all the ailments suffered on Tyneside.

With an injection of energy and a slice of fortune, they could well blow this weakened side away. However, they will need to force the issue and then rely on things to fall their way.
