Former Everton winger Andros Townsend has given an insight into the current mood in the dressing room.
The Everton squad will have been boosted after securing their first Premier League win of the season so far against Brentford last time out. After a difficult start to the campaign, that victory also eased some of the pressure that was building on manager Sean Dyche.
The Toffees now need to use this win as a platform to build some solid form on. Next time out in the Premier League they face newly-promoted Luton Town, who have endured a winless start to the campaign themselves. Everton will be favourites for that match at Goodison Park and need to stamp their authority on the fixture.
If Everton can build some momentum, and keep key figures fully fit, then there is enough quality in Dyche’s squad to steer them clear of a relegation battle this season.

Everton heading in right direction
Andros Townsend wasn’t surprised to see his former club triumph over the Bees. He has insisted that the squad felt optimistic and energised throughout their tricky spell at the start of the season.
Speaking on The Monday Night Club podcast, the 32-year-old free agent said, “I don’t think internally it was ever as bleak as it was made out. Speaking to some players and listening to the manager I think he was really happy with his business in the window.”
“They were quietly confident when they got the players back that they would go on a run…It has been bleak but those players have been quietly confident for a while.”
This will be encouraging to hear for Everton fans, who may have feared that confidence levels in the dressing room were low. However, there were some positives to take from a few of the club’s early defeats this season. They were creating plenty of good goalscoring opportunities, but were just lacking the finishing touch. If that clinical edge has now fallen into place then Everton can definitely kick on from here.
Dyche now just needs to keep this club heading in the right direction and Everton may find that they’re in for a less turbulent campaign than they experienced last time out.
