Ashley Young recently left Everton after two years at the club, and is currently in the process of facilitating his next move.
Ashley Young was one of a handful of players to leave Everton at the end of their contract, although he was offered an extension.
Young had wanted to stay but turned Everton’s offer down, as he was required to take a pay cut.
It was claimed last week that Young had been set to seal a move to Watford, which was something of a fairytale move after he started his professional career there.
Had he made that move, it would have been the second time Young had gone back to a former club, having returned to Aston Villa in 2021.
But there has been a twist today, and the proposed move to Watford is now off, with another club set to swoop.
Ashley Young ‘likely’ to join Ipswich Town as Watford move collapses

Young, who turned 40 recently, is looking to continue playing after leaving Everton.
There have been no thoughts of hanging up the boots for the player, who still feels he has plenty to offer.
Watford were interested in Young.
But the Hornets won’t be signing him now, and the key stumbling block is Young’s wage demands.
Watford were even ready to make him their new captain, but the wages would have broken their structure, and the move is now off.
And journalist Alex Crook says one of Watford’s Championship rivals are poised to swoop.
He said on X this morning: “Told Ashley Young is now likely to join #ITFC.
“#WatfordFC were keen to re-sign him and maybe even make him captain but ultimately his wage demands did not fit their structure.”
Young would be a smart signing for Ipswich
So Young appears likely to sign for Ipswich now – and he would make a good signing for the Tractor Boys.
Young obviously has a wealth of experience and is someone who would be brilliant for their dressing room in terms of the leadership he would provide.
Ipswich obviously want to get back into the Premier League and Young knows what it’s like being part of a dressing room that is pushing to finish top of the table.
We will see if this one gets across the line, and if Ipswich are able to meet the demands that Watford could not.
