Chris Sutton makes big Anthony Gordon claim in Everton v Newcastle prediction

Few will be expecting much from Everton tonight, given their immense woes felt at home, and the level of the opposition they face.

Despite the vast injury crisis felt by Newcastle United, they still boast far than enough firepower to cause the Toffees big problems tonight.

And whilst they, in turn, have plenty of quality to do the same, at Goodison Park they seemingly cannot find their mojo.

As an issue that has plagued them all campaign, having since been chronicled by The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland, it surely must end eventually.

However, whilst speaking to the BBC, former Celtic and Chelsea man Chris Sutton would offer his damning verdict that does not bode well for Everton and Sean Dyche.

He claimed: ‘This should be a really good game. between two teams who will throw everything at it.

‘Everton’s home form is not great, but they have total belief in their approach under Sean Dyche and they play like they share the same cause.

‘But Newcastle’s unity is also great to see – they are all in with Eddie Howe and fully invested in his playing style as well.

‘I was tempted to go for a draw but with former Everton winger Anthony Gordon going back to Goodison Park, I have a sneaky feeling he might make the difference.’

Will Everton beat Newcastle United tonight?

Although the Magpies will be clear favourites, as Sutton has only fed into with his 2-1 prediction, there is certainly a possibility that Everton could upset that notion.

Even if their home form has deserted them.

After all, Goodison Park will still be a bear pit, even if the players’ profligacy remains. Especially against opponents that draw as much frustration as tonight’s.

Despite losing five of their last six Premier League matches with Newcastle, they did prove in 2022 that even during their lowest point they can still compete with an in-form outfit.

Alex Iwobi’s late winner sent the Old Lady into raptures, and with the backdrop of their recent points deduction, tonight promises to be even angrier.

Who knows? Maybe tonight will mark the Goodison Park turnaround needed to see their home form start to match their away form. Should that happen, the sky truly is the limit.
