The transfer window may be winding down, but it seems Everton are still itching to complete a deal or two before the deadline slams shut.
Whether it be a much-needed winger or some fresh competition for the midfield, fans have delighted in every new addition, especially given how starved of signings they have been in recent years.
But, this summer has seen a sharp change in that trend, with new faces identified, scouted and signed with remarkable ease and speed.
Naturally, some other targets have got away, but with a new centre-back, attacking midfielder and winger, the squad already looks much healthier.
And now, despite all this, a new striker could also be on the agenda too.
AS Roma ready to allow Tammy Abraham transfer
That’s at least what is being reported by outlets in Italy, with one having previously claimed that Everton were interested in signing Tammy Abraham from AS Roma.
Well, despite the £20m price tag, it seems the Toffees have not been deterred, with this latest report from the print edition of Corriere dello Sport [10 August, page 5] even suggesting that their pursuit has been longstanding and relatively intense.
After all, it has clearly had an effect on Daniele De Rossi’s thinking, with the Italian manager now reportedly willing to allow the Englishman to leave this summer.
Having suffered another injury-riddled spell in Italy, perhaps a return to England might help him solve his issues under Sean Dyche’s no-nonsense leadership, just as Dominic Calvert-Lewin did, and potentially even usurp the contract rebel.
Is Tammy Abraham better than Dominic Calvert-Lewin?
Having been described as a ‘superb centre forward’ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig upon first moving to Rome, this claim was more than backed up by his stunning start there.
Under Jose Mourinho’s guidance, he scored a remarkable 27 goals in all competitions whilst assisting a further five, firing his new team to European glory in the Conference League.
He was in sparkling form, but a terribly-timed ACL rupture has set him back indefinitely.
Fortunately, at just 26 years old, time remains on his side, but this injury record must worry Thelwell.
Especially given how hard it was to nurse Calvert-Lewin back to health, only for him to eye an exit now.
Back when he was with Chelsea in the Premier League, Abraham’s outstanding goalscoring season came during the 2019/20 term, ironically under Frank Lampard’s tenure.

He notched 15 goals and has since developed massively in Rome.
Meanwhile, Calvert-Lewin’s best-ever tally, a 15-goal haul during the 2020/21 campaign, has yet to be repeated as his finishing prowess has struggled to re-emerge.
If Calvert-Lewin does leave Everton, Abraham would mark an ample replacement. The only hope is that the Toffees can get a fee for the 27-year-old now rather than watch him leave for free next summer.
