Former Everton player Conor Coady has made a big claim as he believes Seamus Coleman is a huge reason for the Toffees still being in the Premier League.

Conor Coady was on loan at Everton last season and in the summer the club decided not to sign him on a permanent deal.

Club captain Seamus Coleman has not played this season due to a long-term injury, but Coady has claimed it was his actions on and off the pitch which were key in keeping the club in the division.

Coleman will be hoping to return to first-team action soon and these comments from Coady emphasise why he is so key to the club.

Coady on Coleman being key to Premier League survival

Coady, who is now at Championship side Leicester City, was on the Monday Night Club on BBC 5 Live Sport. Speaking about his former team mate Coleman, he said: “Seamus is one of the best people in football.

“What he thinks of that football club, I don’t think he gets enough credit for. He’s been there all of his life, all of his football career really and what he was doing with the lads and what he does on a daily basis, I’ll be honest, he’s brilliant.

“He drags people through. For me, a big reason why Everton are still in the Premier League is because of Seamus Coleman. Just because of his talking and I’ll be honest he has meetings himself, pulls the lads himself, he has meeting with a few of us and he spoke to a few of us about what he wanted to do and we were with him the whole way.”

This is no doubt high praise from Coady, who is also seen as a leader and was the club captain at his former club Wolves.

These comments show how important it is to have experienced leaders in the dressing room, especially when you are in a relegation battle.

The last two seasons have seen Everton surviving in the division on the final day. They look better this season and hopefully, Sean Dyche can get them battling in the middle of the Premier League instead.
