Everton duo James Tarkowski and Abdoulaye Doucoure have now been named in Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week after Saturday’s 3-1 win at Brentford.

The pair put in standout individual displays in what was a great team performance, as Everton picked up their first three points of the season.

Indeed, Tarkowski’s ‘commanding presence’ earned him a place in Shearer’s backline, with the centre-back superb defensively while also a threat in attack.

Writing via the Premier League website, Shearer said of the 30-year-old: “The centre-back was a menace in Brentford’s box, providing a goal and an assist, while he was also a commanding presence in defence.”

Doucoure meanwhile doubled his goal tally for the season with a superb strike and was a constant runner in behind £26m forward Beto, providing Everton with an attacking threat throughout the game.

Making it into Shearer’s midfield, the pundit said of the Malian: “His goal provided Everton with the perfect start and he was unlucky not to score a second when he hit the crossbar.”

Doucoure and Tarkowski must keep up excellent form going forward

The win lifted the Toffees out of the bottom three and with home fixtures against Luton Town and Bournemouth in the Premier League coming up, it was a win that could get Everton’s season going.

Indeed, Brentford is a challenging place to visit and to come away with all three points is a huge boost for Sean Dyche’s side after such a poor start to the campaign.

A goal for forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin will also be a big step in the right direction, and if Everton can keep the 26-year-old fit this season, him and new arrival Beto could be a handful for any Premier League defence.

It was a ‘commanding’ performance at Brenford, and now Sean Dyche must replicate it consistently.
