Frank Lampard’s tenure as Everton boss was certainly an up-and-down affair.

The former Chelsea manager helped save the Toffees in 2022 after taking the reins during the January window.

However, things went south quickly last season, with Sean Dyche drafted in to save the Toffees during a second consecutive fight against the drop.

Despite Lampard’s relatively poor spell, the 45-year-old has received some kind words from one of Everton’s former players.

Conor Coady makes ‘honest’ Frank Lampard claim

Talking on the Rest is Football Podcast, Conor Coady has claimed the Chelsea legend was “amazing” to play under.

“I spoke to Frank Lampard, and he was amazing. He was brilliant. Honestly,” Coady told the Rest is Football Podcast.

“People look at his time at Everton and how it ended, but him as a person, and how he carried himself and how he helped me as a person and a footballer, I thought he was brilliant.

“He was a bit of a hero of mine growing up, so to have the opportunity to play under him at that time was a privilege.”

Will Frank Lampard manage again?

Taking time out of the game is probably a smart move by Lampard.

The 45-year-old’s return to Stamford Bridge didn’t go as planned, with just one win after replacing Graham Potter in West London.

After his second Chelsea spell ended, Lampard revealed he was in no rush to return to the dugout.

He told Diary of a CEO podcast: “It’s hard to know. Many people say, ‘Get into punditry, it’s easy, put your feet up’.

“I get my enjoyment; what gets my blood flowing is working and being a coach. So that’s what I want to do.

“I’m in no immediate rush to do it. The reality is, off the back of Everton and Chelsea, it’s probably time for me to take my time anyway because of what opportunities may be out there.”

This is a good call. Too often, managers jump back into jobs ill-prepared and make the same mistakes; Michael Beale’s tenure at Sunderland is an excellent example.

With Lampard gathering his thoughts and assessing his next move, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him lined up for another job shortly.
