The Merseyside derby is one of British football’s fiercest rivalries.
Everton and Liverpool are the two biggest football clubs in the city and are constantly fighting for the bragging rights each season.
It’s been Liverpool who have often earned much of the plaudits in recent times, especially during Jurgen Klopp’s reign, but the Toffees have had their moments in head-to-head clashes.
Everton were 2-0 victors against the Reds last term with Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the scoresheet.
As ever, ahead of their clash next week, there’s been a lot of build-up and talk about the history between the two.
And, with that said, Conor Coady, who’s plied his trade on either side of Stanley Park, has come out and revealed the moment he decided to stop supporting Liverpool for Everton.

Conor Coady shares why he stopped supporting Liverpool
Speaking on the Still Ryan podcast, Conor Coady revealed that when he signed for Everton in 2022, he stopped supporting his boyhood club Liverpool.
“But signing for Everton sent me completely the other way (from supporting Liverpool).
“Because I knew what playing for Everton meant and I knew what playing for Everton brought and I knew the rivalry between Everton and Liverpool.
“So signing for Everton completely sent me the other way. And the reasons why I signed for Everton was, and I’m sure we’ll go on to it with me, was because the size of the football club, I’ve grew up around there, me mates are Blues and I wanted to play for that club.”
Coady explains the decision to leave Liverpool
Coady also went on to explain why he decided to leave Liverpool after graduating through the ranks from the age of six.
“For me, you can’t still be playing in the 23s for that amount of time. So I think for me, it was so important that I made that move.
“And for me, the goal was to be a footballer. If I’d stayed at Liverpool, I don’t think that would have been.
“So any young players watching this, if you’re scared to leave your club, leave? Like leave, go and leave and get your appearances.”
Despite often being booed on his returns to Anfield, Coady did admit that he’s not lost interest in Liverpool and still watches their games as a massive football fan.
