David Moyes has made it clear to The Friedkin Group that Everton must spend correctly in the upcoming transfer window.

Last summer provided mixed success for Everton when it came to transfers, with the likes of Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall marking positive additions.

However, there were also a number of signings that are yet to work out on Merseyside; the likes of Adam Aznou and Tyler Dibling.

Following a season of progression, Moyes has made it clear that, despite the improvements made, Everton risk falling back into the relegation battle if they don’t spend wisely.

David Moyes shares Friedkin warning over Everton summer spending

Moyes has pushed Everton for European qualification, but recent results have meant the Blues will need favours from elsewhere.

Two games remain to define Everton’s summer, but the 63-year-old is still cautious about what poor recruitment could lead to.

“I’m looking at Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham. Tottenham Hotspur won the Europa League last year. Two years before that, I won the Conference League with West Ham,” Moyes told the Liverpool Echo.

“If you don’t spend correctly or spend wisely, you can find yourself that you could be relegated in this league. It’s so easy to be done. Everton have just come through a period where how they’ve survived, and some of the games, and the points deductions, et cetera, has been amazing.”

Everton News columnist Alan Myers expressed his concern over Everton’s spending last summer, which has seen around £75m worth of players barely used.

The Toffees have an opportunity to push on in the summer following what has been a solid 2025/26 campaign on Merseyside.

Credit is due after Everton have finally enjoyed a season that has not consisted of relegation concerns.

However, there has been an opportunity to make a real push for Europe, which has to be built upon in the summer through some smart spending.

The Friedkin Group have put their money where their mouths are since taking over, but this summer could really help define the long-term direction of the side.
