Everton have endured a solid, but not extraordinary, start to the 2025/26 campaign following what was a promising summer.

David Moyes was finally able to get his feet under the table over the summer having inherited a squad in January from Sean Dyche.

The 62-year-old was handed significant backing by The Friedkin Group after a number of players departed Merseyside at the end of their deals.

By the end of the window, Moyes was delighted with Everton’s transfer business, with the likes of Jack Grealish brought in to really boost the squad’s quality.

However, it was a testing summer for the Everton manager who oversaw a major rebuild of the squad he had inherited just months prior.

During the pre-season tour of the United States, the 62-year-old shocked journalists with what he had to say ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

David Moyes’ shocking private Everton message over the summer

Everton News understands that Everton will be looking to add in the January transfer window having had too many areas to address over the summer.

Positive work was done to bolster Everton’s squad, but the transfer business on Merseyside came together in the final weeks of the window.

Should Everton extend David Moyes’ deal beyond 2027 or replace him?

Speaking on the Talk of the Devils podcast, journalist Andy Mitten shared his shock after what Moyes told him during their pre-season tour of the States.

“You know, I had an hour with David a couple of months ago in Chicago. I was struck by how uncertain he was of Everton going into this season. And he was like, we need signings,” said Mitten.

“Now he has actually had those signings because he hadn’t had Jack Grealish, for example, when I spoke to him. And maybe he’s publicly or speaking to me more pessimistic.”

Ben Foster is concerned about Everton’s league position despite the relatively positive feeling around the club.

There have certainly been games this season where the Blues have left points on the pitch.

And that is going to come under pressure over the coming month, with a daunting run of fixtures ahead of the Toffees over the festive period.

Moyes wants more Everton signings in January

The January transfer window is going to be an interesting one for Everton, with the likes of Iliman Ndiaye away on international duty.

Everton News is aware that Jack Grealish has been told he has a future at Everton beyond his loan, if he wants to join permanently.

Graeme Bailey shares the latest on David Moyes’ Everton future

“From what I understand, the Friedkins are pretty happy with David Moyes at the moment. I’m not saying Moyes will be in charge in five years time or even two years time. But I’m not hearing anything that suggests there is going to be an immediate change.”

Quality is needed in January, with Everton News columnist Alan Myers expecting Everton to target Premier League experienced players.

The Toffees have been able to add a number of exciting prospects under the Friedkins, but now it may be time to fine tune the squad with some players that know the league well.

After all, players like Tyler Dibling have not been handed many opportunities in the squad under Moyes.
