Everton could qualify for Europe this season as they currently sit joint seventh.
Everton are level on points with Brentford, who occupy a Conference League spot heading into the final six games of the season.
If the Toffees do manage to get into Europe, it’ll help them attract a higher calibre of player, and they’ll have a bigger transfer budget, too.
You can only name one! Which one takes top spot for you? 🤩
The Friedkin Group are keen to sign some of Europe’s best youngsters, as they hope to deploy a similar model to Borussia Dortmund.
David Moyes seems to have his own ideas, and one of his transfer models presents a major risk, especially this summer.
Everton should consider abandoning David Moyes’ Championship plan
David Moyes believes Everton should be signing players from the Championship, as he says it’s a hotbed for future Premier League stars.
The Toffees were linked with 10 Championship players last summer, and they’re already showing an interest in several ahead of the next window.
Watford’s Imran Louza has been linked to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, as has Millwall’s Femi Azeez and Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney.
Should Everton be making a summer move for Hayden Hackney at a reported £30m?
Perhaps he'd be a good long-term successor to Idrissa Gana Gueye… 🤔
But, Moyes’ desire to recruit from the second tier is dangerous this season, as the standard has been especially poor compared to previous years.
Leeds and Burnley both went up with 100 points last term, and even third place surpassed the 90-point mark.
But, the higher end of the division has been nowhere near as strong this campaign, with many of the parachute payments teams (Leicester, Southampton, Sheffield) failing to reach the heights expected of them.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 42 | 25 | 10 | 7 | 84 | 42 | 42 | 85 | |
| 2 | 40 | 21 | 12 | 7 | 71 | 40 | 31 | 75 | |
| 3 | 42 | 21 | 10 | 11 | 56 | 47 | 9 | 73 | |
| 4 | 42 | 20 | 12 | 10 | 62 | 42 | 20 | 72 |
The consensus all year has been how much the levels have dropped around the league, so Everton should bear that in mind when assessing the market.
Perhaps the Friedkin Group and their transfer chiefs should advise Moyes to look elsewhere and sign players from a league with more quality.
