Former Everton winger Demarai Gray has now sent a two-word message to his ex-Toffees teammate Andros Townsend.

Indeed, 32-year-old Townsend was released by Everton at the end of last season and has since struggled to find a new club.

A proposed move to Vincent Kompany’s Burnley fell through leaving Townsend in limbo ahead of the start of the current campaign.

However, the former England international has now joined newly promoted side Luton Town on a short-term contract until January 2024.

Taking to his Instagram, Townsend expressed his excitement at signing for the Hatters, posting: “This one just feels soo good.

Immensely grateful to everyone at Luton Town for this opportunity soo excited to get back to it.”

Heading into the comments section, his former Everton teammate Demarai Gray was one of the first to congratulate the Premier League veteran on his return to football with a two-word message.

Gray commented: “Congrats bro.”

Townsend injury scuppered any chance he had to claim his place at Everton

Both Gray and Townsend joined Everton during the summer of 2021 when the shock departure of Carlo Ancelotti was compounded by the unpopular appointment of Rafael Benitez.

Like his former teammate, Jamaican international Gray also departed Goodison Park this summer following a two-year spell on Merseyside after falling down the pecking order under Sean Dyche.

Indeed, the 27-year-old became part of the Premier League exodus to Saudi Arabia last month, joining Pro League side Al-Ettifaq in a £10m deal.

Meanwhile, Townsend’s Everton career was prematurely cut short by an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in March 2022, meaning that the 32-year-old has spent the past 18 months sidelined.

However, Townsend has always been a consummate professional and no doubt he still has plenty in the tank as he joins Rob Edwards’ side at Kenilworth Road.
