Speaking post-match, Simeone rubbed salt in Everton’s wounds, explaining just how good the former Toffees winger is.
“He continues to evolve completely, improving tremendously defensively, with a greater impact on the team,” the Argentine manager stated.
“He has everything offensively; we’ve never had players of that calibre. We’re committed to playing with four forwards, even though some say Giuliano is an attacking midfielder or full-back.
“Lookman is breathtaking; he has so much more to offer. I saw it with Nigeria, and that’s what I want from him.”

In fairness to Everton, few would’ve predicted Lookman to reach these heights when he was sold in 2019.
Leicester made the same mistake, as they decided against making his loan move permanent for just £14m in 2022.
Either way, it does make you think what could’ve been if the Toffees had kept Lookman.
