Everton’s season has been a tumultuous one thus far, but it does feel like they have surpassed the worst of it.

Having started proceedings just as poorly as they did the campaign prior, Sean Dyche has come under some deserved scrutiny for his management throughout this spell.

Still the best man for the job, he attested that things would get better, exactly as he did a year earlier.

And, with a first Premier League win now claimed, it’ll be interesting to see whether his prediction becomes a success.

What is undoubtedly a success though is Dwight McNeil, who has been starring amidst all the struggles.

Dwight McNeil shares conversation with Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Chatting with Everton’s official website, the wide man, reinvigorated as a number ten this season, combed over what has already been an impressive campaign thus far personally.

Within the top three in the Premier League for chances created, ahead of some truly star-studded names, it’s no surprise fans are rushing to laud McNeil.

However, ever the hard worker, he has admitted that there is still more to be done.

Atop of his list of goals is clearly forging stronger relationships with his strikers, namely Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 24-year-old admitted: ‘I’ve also spoken a lot to Dom [Calvert-Lewin] and the strikers in terms of what they want because they have one of the hardest jobs on the pitch and, as a number 10, you’re the one who is generally closest to him, so it’s about building that relationship and understanding between you, ready for when it really counts out on the pitch.’

Dwight McNeil is on fire for Everton this season

It’s fair to say that, thus far this season, McNeil has been Everton’s standout.

It’s so refreshing to see him finally start the new campaign with the consistency and creativity that we have seen only in flashes across his previous two years at Goodison Park.

Throughout the entire last term, the former Burnley man would score three and assist a further six, a solid if unspectacular return.

Already this campaign he has three goals and two assists to his name, with his underlying statistics even more remarkable.

After all, he is forging 3.5 key passes per game, and has created six big chances, four of which have been spurned, via Sofascore.

Clearly, the relationship he shares with Calvert-Lewin is bearing fruit on the creative end.

All he needs is for his striker to hit a run of prolific form, and it might end up being quite comfortably the best season of his career thus far.
