Euro giants want £20m Everton star before January deadline after second PSR breach

Everton, in their weak financial state, will take funding from any location they can possibly get it.

Although, it is likely this mindset which has seen them become somewhat reliant on loans from 777 Partners as their takeover rumbles on.

They need to set up a far more self-sustaining model for the immediate future, even if Kevin Thelwell has taken great strides towards that since his introduction.

That is, despite making significant steps towards a healthier future, with the wage bill having been reduced and many key stars reluctantly sold for big money.

Well, with Ben Godfrey another now linked with a Goodison Park exit, perhaps his sale could come at the perfect time to offload an out-of-favour asset at their hour of need.

Will Everton sell Ben Godfrey?

Having been linked with a departure for some time now, the former Norwich City centre-back has seen his opportunities limited ever since Carlo Ancelotti’s departure.

Once a mainstay, injuries and emergences elsewhere have seen him pushed down in the pecking order, cementing the 26-year-old’s spot as the fourth-choice central defender under Sean Dyche.

His desperation to depart cannot therefore be scrutinised, as a youngster with much of his career left to tackle. Game time is crucial at this stage.

So, with AC Milan reportedly sniffing around, as per CalcioMercato, it could represent fine business to strike a deal with the European giants and take another large stride towards financial security.

How good has Ben Godfrey been for Everton?

As aforementioned, game time has been considerably sparse in the last few years despite thriving under the legendary Italian back in 2020.

Signed by the current Real Madrid boss for a £20m fee, he instantly endeared himself to the fanbase due to his penchant for a tough tackle, and the outstanding physical attributes he boasts.

There are few in world football who adorn such a powerful frame yet blend it with blistering speed.

That debut campaign saw him shine, and making 31 Premier League appearances he would maintain a 7.03 average rating, buoyed by his 85% pass accuracy as well as 1.8 tackles and 3.5 clearances per game, via Sofascore.

It is worth noting that the bulk of these games saw Godfrey deputise at full-back too.

However, having made just one league start this term, it is fair to say that he is unfavoured by Dyche, even if he did shine.

Perhaps, both to reignite his career and help ease Everton’s woes after their second profit and sustainability breach, a move to Milan might be perfect.
