Everton’s recruitment over the last decade has been really inconsistent.
The Toffees have enjoyed some success in the market, most notably with the additions of Richarlison, Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite.
But, Everton have, in the main, recruited really poorly and their scattergun approach under Farhad Moshiri saw them sink into financial woes.
They’ve had to contend with PSR issues and thus points deductions in recent years which has led to multiple relegation battles.
Some of Everton’s biggest transfer errors have been missing out on targets who then go on to become world-beaters elsewhere.
For example, Everton deemed Virgil van Dijk too expensive in 2015 when they could’ve signed him on a £10m deal from Celtic.
And, there’s another painful example of a target they had in 2020 who’s now one of the best wingers on the planet.

Everton and Liverpool wanted to sign Michael Olise in 2020
According to TEAMtalk, Everton and Liverpool were fighting over the signature of then-Reading teenager Michael Olise back in 2020.
Olise had enjoyed a sensation breakout season with the Championship side and was attracting interest from the two Merseyside clubs.
However, ultimately, the French winger joined Crystal Palace in an £8m deal during the 2021 January transfer window.
For whatever reason, Everton opted against tabling an offer despite being impressed by scout reports and now they’re being made to pay the price.
Olise established himself as one of the best wide players in the Premier League at Palace and now he’s gone up a level at Bayern Munich this season.
Olise’s incredible stats at Bayern Munich
Since his £45 move to the Bundesliga giants last summer, Olise has gone from strength to strength as evinced by his sensational statistics.
The 23-year-old has netted 13 goals whilst laying on 11 assists, taking his total goal contributions to a whopping 24 for the season.
According to the Mirror, Bayern believe they have a £100m player on their hands, so yet again, it’s another case of what could’ve been for Everon.
The Friedkin’s must ensure these transfer errors are much more few and far between moving forward.
