The Toffees are expected to spend fairly big, after having a quiet January, and if the club have European football to offer the David Moyes and The Friedkin Group may look to create a bigger squad.

We’ve already lots of links to new players, and excitement is already building ahead of the next window.

But Everton also face some big decisions on players who are already at the club.

And there are a few players who stand to leave, one of those being Idrissa Gana Gueye.

But a new report has now suggested the course of action Everton will take over the Senegal international.

Everton ‘highly likely’ to keep Idrissa Gana Gueye

TEAMtalk have reported that Everton are ‘highly likely’ to keep Gueye for next season.

The player currently stands to leave, but the club, of course, hold an option to extend by a further 12 months.

Seemingly, Moyes does not have doubts about the veteran midfielder.

Since he returned from AFCON, the 36-year-old has started every Premier League game for Everton, and has actually looked a lot better recently.

Gueye had some games where he struggled when he first got back, with the relentless schedule seemingly leading to a bit of fatigue.

But in recent weeks the schedule has become a lot less intense, and that has allowed Gueye to pick up his form.

And it looks like the club are now ready to trigger that option to extend his contract.

It was reported that Everton acknowledge they need to rely less on Gueye, given his advancing years.

So it could well be that the plan is to get him into a more rotational role next term.

But certainly, this is news that should be welcomed. Because ultimately, Gueye is clearly still a great player when not being run into the ground, and he has so much experience that can be of benefit to other players.
