Everton, before the transfer window slams shut, still have so much to do.
It’s actually quite worrying the amount of dead wood they still possess at Goodison Park, and yet the alarming lack of depth they also have in a number of key positions.
There is no quality at right-back, no alternatives at left-back, no pace out wide and no clinicality up front.
And yet, none of these problems can realistically get solved until they can ship some of their unwanted stars.
Fortunately, one particular player could be headed towards the exit door, as he is locked in talks with a departure before the window slams shut.
Everton finally in talks to sell Neal Maupay this summer
The latest on that particular transfer venture comes courtesy of French outlet Foot Mercato, whose focus is unsurprisingly on Everton’s French forward Neal Maupay.
Having been very recently embroiled in some controversy regarding the supporters, the 28-year-old hardly helps himself when his own fans start to turn on him.
Maupay fumed at Everton fans who hurled abuse at him and his teammates as they left the capital just yesterday, in a justified act of retaliation.
However, his antics in the past have hardly been necessary.
Now though, it could all be rendered pointless anyway, should he join Marseille.

The French side, who have enjoyed a mass spending spree this summer, have reportedly outlined Maupay as their ‘priority’ signing for the summer, and are in talks with the Toffees to work out a deal.
He first moved to Merseyside in 2022, joining for £15m under Frank Lampard’s brief reign.
Neal Maupay has no future in Sean Dyche’s Everton
Realistically, and as enjoyable as it might have been to have a fully fit and firing Maupay playing for your team, he really has no place within this Everton side anymore.
Perhaps under Lampard, where his system was a little more undetermined, he might have stood a chance at snagging a game or two, but for Sean Dyche, who quite vocally prefers his strikers to be on the tall and powerful side, he does not fit the bill.
The 5 foot 8 finisher is a nuisance, and is pretty efficient at what he does.

It’s just that, within the Toffees’ current system, there is no place for him.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin provides far too much up top with his hold-up play, as does Abdoulaye Doucoure beside him, whilst Iliman Ndiaye is the next in line for that second-striker spot, boasting pace, skill and creativity that the squad is lacking.
Unfortunately for Maupay, there is no place for him anymore, and an exit this summer would likely benefit all parties involved.
