Everton need to add attacking firepower to the squad, and they may do exactly that in the January transfer window, but it will not be easy.

The Toffees have not had an easy start to the campaign, and are repeatedly finding themselves frustrated in front of goal.

Despite creating a lot of opportunities in front of goal this season, with Sean Dyche’s side fourth in the league for big chances created, they have scored just nine times in eight games, and a decisive attacking player could be a crucial addition to ensure Everton’s survival in the Premier League.

They are now reportedly keen on signing Hoffenheim star Maximilian Beier, but will have to fend off competition from Premier League rivals for his signature.

Everton want Max Beier

A report from German outlet FussballTransfers has claimed that Everton, Brentford and Liverpool are all keen on signing the striker, who has scored five goals in seven Bundesliga games this season.

He has been described as “clinical,” and he has proven to be decisive, with Hoffenheim winning all five games he has scored in this season, and losing both when he did not.

The report has also claimed that Beier has a €20m (£17m) release clause in his contract, meaning that he could be excellent value for whoever manages to land him.

Hoffenheim are keen on extending his contract, and raising or removing his release clause, but this could prove to be a difficult task given the interest in him.

An alternative option

In Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto, Everton have two physical strikers, whose main attributes are their size and strength, and Baier would be a nice alternative to both.

Beier is not exactly small, at 1.85m tall, but his incredible speed sets him apart from the other two options, and he could be a deadly option on the counter under Dyche.

If he maintains his form until January, he could arrive as a forward enjoying a clinical spell in front of goal, and may hit the ground running instantly.

It is clear that if Everton can find a clinical edge, the team can be transformed almost immediately, and Beier could be a solution to ongoing problems in front of goal.
