Everton enjoyed a brief hiatus from transfer activity recently, but have since exploded back into life as the summer transfer window draws to a close.

Whether it be due to their poor Premier League start, or if this was the plan all along, Kevin Thelwell is working hard to provide the finishing touches to Sean Dyche‘s squad before tomorrow’s deadline.

And, it seems he has finally identified the winger they have been searching for, and will seek to use their tenuous John Textor link to beat a rival to the deal.

Fabrizio Romano delivers update on Everton target

Whilst numerous outlets have reported Everton’s interest, it never really feels like there is any credence to the rumours until journalist Fabrizio Romano covers the story.

After all, seldom one to reveal an exclusive piece of information, his work in corroborating others’ work is second to none and has seen him grow into one of football’s most sought-after names.

He knows all, and so, with Everton linked with a move for Ernest Nuamah, fans patiently awaited the Italian’s thoughts on the matter to reaffirm their excitement.

Well, he has finally taken to X as of last night, suggesting that the Toffees have actually been locked in talks with Lyon over a deal.

He writes: ‘Fulham and Everton have both approached OL for Ernest Nuamah as he could leave Lyon. Negotiations took place with both clubs.’

The French side only signed Nuamah on a permanent deal this summer for £24m.

Everton desperately need a player like Ernest Nuamah

There are several reasons why Dyche should be all over this deal, but chief among them are the qualities that Nuamah would bring that his squad already doesn’t have.

After all, with Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison their only out-and-out wingers, and Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom capable of deputising in those roles, there is a distinct lack of raw speed.

All of these players have a burst of pace to threaten backlines, but none have that excruciating and dangerous explosively like Nuamah, who when compared to other wingers across Europe, ranks in the top 19% for successful take-ons per 90.

That’s without mentioning how Flemming Pedersen, his former manager at FC Nordsjælland, branded him ‘incredibly fast’, with that same club also labelling him as ‘dynamic’ in their heartfelt farewell post.

A player of this calibre and speed would add what Everton are lacking at long last, and provide Dyche with a wealth of attacking options heading into the rest of the Premier League season.
