Everton are now tracking Manchester City youngster Alex Robertson, who is currently on loan at League One side Portsmouth.

The 20-year-old has been outstanding for Portsmouth this season in his loan spell, making 26 appearances across all competitions in midfield.

He has scored once and assisted three times, whilst also picking up 10 yellow cards.

His reputation is growing as a result of his fine form on loan, and he could be the next Manchester City academy graduate to move to a Premier League side amidst Everton’s transfer interest.

Everton are tracking Alex Robertson

A report from Portsmouth-based outlet The News has revealed that Everton are interested in Robertson following his fine form this season.

“The News understands Everton are now closely following his progress,” the report stated.

Man City have a recall clause in Robertson’s loan deal at Portsmouth, but are reportedly delighted with the progress he has made whilst gaining experience at a senior level.

Robertson can play in both attacking and defensive midfield roles, and was a more prolific scorer at youth level, with seven strikes in 37 games for the Man City under-23 side.

Manchester City have had several young talents find success elsewhere, including Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer, and it could suit all parties if Everton were to make a move for Robertson.

Everton need extra quality in midfield, and there is limited depth beyond Abdoulaye Doucoure, James Garner and Amadou Onana.

A summer move does look more likely for Robertson, and it is unclear what kind of fee would be required to land him, but if Robertson can earn regular minutes at Everton, he could quickly develop into a very strong option.

He could also follow the example of Garner, who was a top prospect for Manchester United before a successful loan spell at Nottingham Forest earned him a move to Everton.

Garner is now performing well at Goodison Park, and is continuing to develop into a strong long-term option.

Signing outstanding young talent with some senior experience under their belt would be a good strategy for Everton to help replace the ageing players within the squad and prepare for the future.

Robertson could arrive as a talented depth option who could quickly develop into a key player, and if he performs well, like Lavia at Southampton, his value would rapidly rise.
