Everton’s free-spending nature under Farhad Moshiri’s rule has been well-documented, and heavily criticised.

Rightly so, of course, with all of their PSR troubles linking back to his misconduct.

Thankfully, they now seem to be nearing the light at the end of the tunnel, with Kevin Thelwell the man to thank for this newfound sustainability.

The hard work he has put in is already paying dividends this summer, with a few more incomings surely on their way.

Everton handed huge boost in Wilfried Gnonto transfer

The latest on Everton’s efforts to sign Wilfried Gnonto comes courtesy of transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, who spoke exclusively to Everton.News about the likelihood of this deal.

Having courted the Italy international for well over a year now, news recently broke that that interest was set to be picked back up, likely buoyed by Amadou Onana’s move to Aston Villa.

Well, now we have learned that not only do the Toffees still want him, but he still wants the move too.

Bailey revealed: ‘He wants to leave Leeds. We know Everton have a longstanding interest in him. We know that. It’s well-documented.

‘A lot of teams like him though. There’s teams back Italy. Como, Roma, and he’s never played in the Serie A. But there’s a lot who like him in England as well.

‘We know that’s a permanent deal, and it just depends… I think Everton are a bit fearful that they might get priced out of it but they shouldn’t do.

‘I see it being in the £20m-£25m. I don’t think it’s on the brink but talks ongoing with quite a few clubs, his people are pushing it. Obviously doesn’t want to start pre-season with Leeds. So we’ll see, he’s turned down a new deal.

‘It’s progressing but obviously with it being a permanent deal there’s a little more for Everton to do. He is one of the ones they want to get done sooner rather than later.’

Everton finally set to get their longstanding top target

At last, after two summers of interest, a transfer request, multiple bids and a year-long wait, Everton finally seem set to get their man.

After all, they will not be denied by their financial restrictions this time.

When they first sparked up their interest, Leeds United had just been relegated, with Gnonto impressing as a teenager in his very first Premier League season.

He scored twice and assisted four, but the financial implications of dropping into the Championship were yet to take effect at Elland Road.

However, failing to win promotion could now prove fatal, and might therefore force their hand.

Now, the 20-year-old has one more campaign of English football under his belt, and from just 19 league starts managed eight goals and two assists.

He would come in and provide ample cover on both flanks for the Toffees, with a keen injection of skill and dynamism.

At last, Everton should get the winger they so richly desire.
