Everton defender Ashley Young has been named amongst the worst signings to have been made in the recent summer transfer window.
According to WhoScored, the statistics recorded so far this season suggest that Everton full-back Ashley Young has been amongst the worst Premier League performers to have moved in the recent transfer window.
Everton signed Young on a free transfer in July, after the expiry of his contract with Aston Villa. The 38-year-old was handed a one-year contract at Goodison Park.
Young has featured heavily for the Toffees so far this season. He has started all eight of the Premier League matches the Merseyside outfit have played.
Used by manager Sean Dyche as both a right-back and left-back at times, the 39-cap former England international’s versatility and experience have been capitalised on.
However, the £40,000-a-week former Manchester United man has struggled to shine so far for his new club. He was particularly poor against his former club, Aston Villa, and newly-promoted side Luton Town.

Everton dodge one bullet
Another player to be named in the XI of poor summer signings by WhoScored is Young’s fellow full-back Max Aarons. Aarons joined Bournemouth in the off-season, arriving from Championship outfit Norwich City in a deal worth up to £12 million.
In another timeline, Aarons might now be plying his trade for Everton. As reported by The Sun in the summer of 2022, the Toffees targeted Aarons whilst Frank Lampard was still in charge of the club.
That deal never came to fruition, and the 23-year-old right-back had to wait another year before making his move back to the Premier League. He looks to be struggling with the step up though.
Everton should perhaps consider themselves fortunate not to have both Young and Aarons on their books.
