Everton’s financial predicament has left them considerably hamstrung ahead of this January transfer window.
Expectations were already low enough, before Director of Football Kevin Thelwell came out and effectively told the fanbase that there would be little transfer to enjoy over the next month.
However, rumours have remained, and such deals could still potentially be made. But only if Sean Dyche is willing to offload his key men.
The likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana are the two who would certainly fetch the largest fees, given their exceptional form and impressive youth.
Even though no supporter wants to see such a strong spine stripped, if it is for the betterment of the entire team and the future of the club, perhaps it marks a necessary evil.

Well, with the latter, the suggestion seems to be that they could earn his replacement instantly, as Football Transfers suggest that Manchester United could propose a swap deal to entice the Toffees into selling.
Given the man in question, Scott McTominay, has reportedly been of ‘long-standing’ interest to the club, it would finally mark the capture of a true battler alongside Hannibal Mejbri who would surely be admired by Evertonians.
How good would Scott McTominay be for Everton?
Whilst far from a like-for-like replacement for Onana, McTominay’s presence in Everton’s midfield could be crucial in taking them to the next level, by allowing the Scotland international to strut his stuff free from the shackes Erik ten Hag usually places upon him.
Seeing how Dyche has transformed Abdoulaye Doucoure into one of the Premier League’s most proficient midfielders, there would be little surprise if he repeated such a trick with the 27-year-old.
After all, he has already showcased his penchant for a goal, both for club and country.

This season McTominay has five Premier League goals from the engine room, and scored seven in eight European Qualifiers just last season for Scotland.
To give him the freedom to crash the box, with his power and aggression certain to prove profitable, there is no telling how good the midfielder might become.
After all, he has been on the end of huge praise in the past, with writer Arjun Pradeep suggesting he always thrives for the underdog: ‘McTominay always gives everything he’s got and when his teammates are underperforming, he pops up with a goal and calms the nerves in the decisive moments. He’s a warrior and has a lot of intangibles. I’ll always rate such a player very highly.’
If that doesn’t describe the perfect Everton player, especially given their current plight, then nothing does.
