Everton could lose two key stars as PL rivals seek to capitalise on deduction crisis

It would be easy, amidst all the anarchy surrounding Everton following their points deduction, to forget that a new transfer window opens up in just over a month.

Although it is unlikely to be a revolutionary one, given the immense financial restrictions they have been working under of late, it does mark an opportunity for Kevin Thelwell and Sean Dyche to bolster a squad that has been tasked with avoiding the drop again even with the huge disadvantage they have been handed.

However, it also offers the chance for some stars to jump ship.

Last January saw Anthony Gordon depart his boyhood club with no second thought, leaving for Newcastle United whilst the Toffees struggled for safety.

And now, reports are suggesting the same could potentially happen with two more of their key assets, with the Sunday Express detailing Manchester United’s interest in both Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana.

It is noted that the Red Devils might β€˜look to capitalise’ on the unrest surrounding Goodison Park by swooping now, with deals even more likely should the likes of Leeds United, Leicester City and Burnley actually sue Everton for the Β£300m suggested.

Why do the clubs want to sue Everton?

The major grievance of that trio comes due to a sporting advantage that the independent commission actually admitted they did not gain.

After all, despite the vast funds invested, they actually overspent the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules by Β£19m, most of which can be attributed to the stadium costs.

However, these three outfits, all of whom have been relegated in recent years, will feel that the ten-point deduction has come too late.

Given that the Foxes would have survived last season had it been enacted then, and the Clarets too were it to have happened the year prior, such frustration is understandable.

However, the grounds for such a sanction are unlikely, especially given Everton will have an appeal of their own to debate.
