Everton could net surprise windfall as £15m flop who criticised fans finds form

Ever since Kevin Thelwell was brought into Everton, the club have made great strides forward for the first time in years.

With a director of football finally allowed to do his job, he has taken important steps towards newfound sustainability even if their two alleged breaches and ten-point deduction have come under his stewardship.

The wage bill is always decreasing, and key players are fetching huge fees to offset the mass losses of the past.

However, it has not all been plain sailing for the 50-year-old, who has enjoyed spells with both Wolverhampton Wanderers and New York Red Bulls.

Perhaps his most high-profile failure is one that remains attached to the Toffees still to this day, with Neal Maupay lingering on Everton’s books.

Could Everton sell Neal Maupay?

Well, the Frenchman could certainly seek to make his exit a permanent one, given the ties he has severed since returning to Brentford.

After all, it took him little time to start badmouthing the club that paid £15m for his services, slamming the fans for making his time there a misery.

That being said, he does still have two years left on his deal, so could certainly fetch a handsome fee should he maintain his form and pique the interest of his temporary employers.

For Sean Dyche, that would be a perfect outcome, given how wildly out of favour he was under his leadership.

How is Neal Maupay playing now?

Having scored just one Premier League goal in the entire last campaign, it was no surprise that Maupay was on the end of some choice words from the fanbase.

After all, their main issues stemmed from a lack of proficiency, with the profligate marksman doing little to offset those woes.

It is also worth noting that his only goal came from an expected goals tally of 4.80, further outlining his vast underperformance.

Whilst that trend is continuing this season, he has put more away already, with his three goals from 5.48 expected goals a marked improvement.

It is still not quite good enough for Dyche though, who will at least want his striker to offer some kind of physicality if he is to be failing to score. That is likely what makes Dominic Calvert-Lewin such a sure thing, despite having not found the net since October.

If Everton could recoup a figure similar to the one they first expended, they could end this nightmare soon whilst receiving an ample boost to their finances.

It is a deal that would benefit all parties; they just need to hope he keeps up his good form and convinces Thomas Frank that he is worth buying again.
