A round-up of the latest Everton news as Sean Dyche confirms Abdoulaye Doucoure has a new injury blow and the Toffees learn if PSR will impact Bramley-Moore Dock.

Abdoulaye Doucoure has suffered a fresh hamstring injury at Everton

Blues boss Dyche confirmed after Everton beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in an FA Cup third-round replay on Wednesday that Doucoure has suffered a fresh hamstring injury. He had only just got the 31-year-old back in the side. But Doucoure now faces another spell on the sidelines.

Dyche welcomed the Mali midfielder back from his previous issue as Everton and Aston Villa played a goalless draw at Goodison Park last Sunday. Doucoure enjoyed the full 90 minutes, as well, but has got an injury to the other leg and is back in the Finch Farm treatment room.

Everton were without Doucoure for three Premier League games, their Carabao Cup exit on penalties to Fulham in the quarter-finals and their original FA Cup trip to Crystal Palace after his previous injury. Now, he has a completely fresh problem to thwart Dyche’s efforts again.

“It’s a hamstring injury but the other leg,” Dyche stated in his post-match press conference. “It’s nothing to do with his recent injury.”

Doucoure still remains Everton’s top scorer so far this season across all competitions with six goals in 21 appearances. Dominic Calvert-Lewin ranks second at Goodison with four from 22 outings. While only Beto has also scored more than two with his three from 22 appearances.

Second Premier League PSR charge will not affect Bramley-Moore Dock

Everton’s Bramley-Moore Dock stadium project will continue to go ahead as planned despite the Premier League charging the Toffees with a second breach of its profit and sustainability rules (PSR). That is according to the Daily Mail, which notes the stadium remains unaffected.

The Premier League confirmed on Monday that it had charged Everton and also Nottingham Forest with exceeding the £105m limit allowed for losses between the 2020/21 and 2022/23 seasons. It also stated that both clubs confirmed that they were in breach during the period.

It is the second time in the last year that the Premier League has charged Everton with a PSR breach. The division also charged the Blues during March 2023 after they recorded losses of £124.5m. An independent commission would also hand Everton a 10-point deduction for it.

Everton are still appealing their 10-point deduction for breaching PSR between 2019/20 and 2021/22. But the work on Bramley-Moore Dock remains unaffected as Everton now await a verdict for their second charge. The Blues intend to leave Goodison after the 2024/25 term.

Everton will use Richarlison’s transfer to appeal their PSR charge

Everton intend to cite the transfer of Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur from July 2022 when the Toffees contest their second charge for breaching PSR. That is according to the Evening Standard, which reports that the Blues believe they had to accept a bid below his real value.

Spurs paid the Blues an initial £50m, plus a further £10m in add-ons, to sign Richarlison after four years on Merseyside. But Everton believe the Brazil striker was worth an £80m package. They also feel they could have got the fee had the Toffees not needed to raise funds quickly.

Nottingham Forest are also in the same boat regarding Brennan Johnson’s transfer to Spurs in September. The Reds initially sought to sell the forward to Brentford last June. But he did not want to join the Bees and would hold out until Tottenham paid £47.5m on deadline day.

Had Johnson joined Brentford in June, Nottingham Forest believe they would not have been in breach of PSR at all. Instead, the City Ground squad and Everton now await the verdict of an independent commission which they hope will listen to their arguments amid any appeal.
