Senior first team squad members Mason Holgate and Jean-Philippe Gbamin have been left out of Everton’s pre-season training camp squad.

Sean Dyche has assembled the Everton squad that will be travelling to Switzerland for a pre-season training camp, and Mason Holgate and Jean-Philippe Gbamin have failed to make the cut, as reported by Liverpool World.

They aren’t the only ones to miss out. However, Seamus Coleman’s absence is injury related and James Garner and Jarrad Branthwaite are exempt following their exertions with England’s under-21 side. Demarai Gray also won’t be in Switzerland as he remains on international duty.

For Holgate and Gbamin however, this exclusion confirms that they aren’t in Dyche’s plans.

What next for Holgate and Gbamin?

Holgate is a versatile defender who has been with Everton since 2015. However, the 26-year-old fell out of favour last season and only made two Premier League starts after Christmas, and was sent off in one of them. Dyche certainly seems to lack faith in Holgate, who will be allowed to leave and looks close to a loan deal that will hopefully allow him to get his career back on track elsewhere.

As for £25 million man Gbamin, he has failed to impress since he arrived at Goodison Park in 2019. His own agent has dubbed his time on Merseyside a “nightmare.” Injuries have plagued him at Everton and loan spells at CSKA Moscow and Trabzonspor have done little to revive his reputation. All parties will be hoping he can secure a permanent exit this summer.
