Everton face a tough task in signing Joel Piroe this summer.

Everton have been linked with a £15 million move for Joel Piroe, but Swansea City captain Matt Grimes has warned that it will take a huge effort for any club to prise his teammate away from the Welsh club.

As quoted by BBC Sport, Grimes said, “I actually feel a bit sorry for him with the amount of speculation that surrounds him all the time. It’s warranted because he scores so many goals. If someone comes in and takes him from us, it has to be the perfect deal for him and the club.”

If Piroe has been feeling the pressure of speculation, then the striker hasn’t let it effect him on the pitch. Piroe was in fine form last season. The 24-year-old scored 19 times in the Championship last season, and netted on 22 occasions in the campaign prior to that.

It is entirely unsurprising to see Piroe attracting Premier League attention. The Dutchman would be a brilliant addition to Sean Dyche’s squad, but clearly he won’t come cheap.

Everton need a statement like Piroe

Everton do need to make a statement this summer. Off the back of such a poor season, where they came so close to relegation, there needs to be a concerted effort to improve things significantly in this summer transfer window.

Whether the Toffees are willing, or able, to push the boat out enough to bring Piroe to Goodison Park remains to be seen. It would represent the kind of move the club need to make though.

Piroe has been good enough for long enough in the second tier now to show he is ready to test himself in the top flight. He has the physicality to thrive in the Premier League, and is a composed and reliable finisher. His goals could be the difference between a comfortable campaign and another relegation scrap for Everton this season.
