Everton fans all saying the same thing as Burnley try to claim £50m compensation

Burnley are trying to sue Everton and claim in excess of £50m.

When Everton were handed a 10-point deduction during the 2023/24 season, which later got reduced to six points, Burnley considered taking legal action against the Merseyside club.

The Clarets argued that the PSR breach came during the 2021/22 season, and so the deduction should’ve been applied that year.

If that were the case, Burnley would’ve avoided relegation, so they want to be compensated with a substantial payout.

It’s just emerged that Burnley are going ahead with their lawsuit and their case will begin this week at the International Dispute Resolution Centre in St Paul’s, London.

Here’s how Everton fans have reacted to the news.

Everton fans react to Burnley’s £50m compensation claim

Everton fans replied to the post below and all said similar things about Burnley’s argument in the compensation claim.

@TheJacko1878 replied: “A sporting advantage of being unable to spend any money on the sporting side of things? We were spending on a stadium, which the PL said didn’t count until 2yrs after we started building, they said oh yeah it counts now and it’s backdated. Stupid Burnley.”

“Gained sporting advantage by getting deducted points yea ok,” @paulEfC1975 said.

@Remol71 added: “It’s up to the league to enforce the rules not us, can’t see how the case is against Everton.”

@Sniffmydiddle noted: “A sporting advantage by having 10 points deducted and nearly being relegated?”

@LeePazzini commented: “I mean they’re absolutely clutching here!”

@malpheuse posted: “Finishing 2 places behind us yet our fault they didn’t stay up…”

The case may never be made public

The iPaper have reported that Everton and Burnley lawyers have been preparing their case for around a year.

The case will be private, and it’s understood the verdict may never be made public, so it could go radio silent from here.

However, if Burnley do win the case, it potentially gives other clubs the ground to try and sue Manchester City – should their 115 charges be proved.

A telling period awaits not just Everton but the rest of the Premier League.
