Everton were good value for their comfortable 3-0 win over Burnley last night, which saw them catapulted into the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

With another home draw now to look forward to, welcoming a Fulham side in unpredictable form, a huge opportunity has emerged for the Merseyside club to end their silverware hoodoo at last with another win and a favourable draw.

However, whilst many will rush to laud the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner for their excellent showings, it was Beto’s cameo that has drawn the most interest, given the crazed energy the Portuguese marksman injected.

Wildly unpredictable and often uncomfortable to watch, it was actually quite a fine showing for the 26-year-old, who capped off a hard-working 22 minutes on the pitch with a special assist, bullying the defender before crossing for Ashley Young to score a third.

The intrigue in Beto’s display is not coming from that moment of magic he produced though, although some do reference it, but instead his unorthodox play style which has seen some fans compare him to unsavoury figures of old.

After all, one would tweet: ‘Beto reminds me of Oumar Niasse so much Yano. He’s technically terrible but he’s an absolute pest!’

Such a sentiment was later echoed, but with a far more positive spin: ‘Beto is raw but has the potential to be a monster.’

Then, in an effort to praise the forward for his special assist, another fan claimed: ‘Absolutely made up for Beto there. Worked his socks off and did everything for that goal. Fair play to him.’

Even Everton fan channel The Mighty Blues weighed in, noting: ‘Absolutely made up for Beto there. You can tell he needed that. He strikes me as the type of player that needs 15/20 minutes to settle into a game but once he does, he’s capable of producing real quality! Absolutely fantastic assist!’

How did Beto play vs Burnley?

Although his time on the pitch was brief, Beto provided a consistent threat with his pace, power and awkwardness.

As such, he earned success in two of the four dribbles he attempted, forged two key passes, and even saw one opportunity to strike from distance sail wide after he had created some space on his own, via Sofascore.

His impressive, if odd cameo offers an important option for Sean Dyche, knowing that he can clearly rely on Beto to provide ample backup for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
