After months of speculation surrounding his future, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has finally confirmed that he will be leaving Everton.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract on Merseyside ends on the 1st of July, so he is set to leave on a free transfer.

David Moyes wanted Calvert-Lewin to stay, and there was a contract on the table for him to sign, however, he has now officially decided to move on to new pastures.

The Everton frontman has been at the club for nine years, netting 71 times in 273 appearances. Only Romelu Lukaku and Duncan Ferguson have scored more Premier League goals.

Fans have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to react to the news and they’re all saying the same thing.

Everton fans split after Dominic Calvert-Lewin announces departure

The reaction to Calvert-Lewin’s exit has produced similar sentiments among Everton supporters.

“Sad that it ends this way for DCL and Everton. Numerous times he played when he shouldn’t have because we were in the crap under Benitez and Lampard. Popped up when we needed him to for Palace at Goodison. Came under a lot of unfair stick but it was best for both to part ways,” @J_Barlow97 posted.

“Last few years soured his stay. But that return on £1.5m outlay is smashing to be fair. Will always look back fondly on the Palace goal,” @ItsOnlyJk added.

@Ellisjohnson17 commented: “Right time to move on IMO, Will always go down as a hero for some of his goals especially the Palace header.”

“Can’t deny he’s been a great signing for £1.5m but don’t think he’s a massive loss, if we want to move forward he’s not the centre forward who’s going to get us 15+ goals a season,” @Clarke17EFC said.

“92 direct goal involvements for a player that cost 1.5 mill isn’t bad tbh,” @stetansley noted.

@nataliebargery explained: “Classy goodbye from Dom and I wouldn’t expect anything else. Time for a change for him and Everton but I wish him all the best for the future and thank him for some really special moments in blue.

Calvert-Lewin’s parting words

Calvert-Lewin announced his exit with a classy statement on Instagram and explained that it was a decision that was made by not just him but his family, too.

Part of the statement read: “The choice to move on was not simply about me – it was a decision my family and I spent a long time considering together. We believe it is the right moment to seek a new challenge and continue growing, but that doesn’t lessen the bond I’ll always have with Everton.

“I’m deeply proud if what we’ve shared, fighting for this club when it mattered most, scoring big goals in crucial moments, wearing the shirt with commitment and pride. My hope is that I leave with your respect, knowing I always sought to uphold the values of this great club. Thank you for everything. From my very first day, I always knew what it meant to play for Everton. Up the Toffees.”

Now, for Moyes and his staff, the process of bringing in a replacement will only intensify, as Everton remain in talks to sign Thierno Barry from Villarreal.
