Everton were unlucky to lose against Manchester City on Saturday.

Everton went toe to toe with the reigning Premier League champions for most of the Goodison Park clash, but ultimately, they fell short in the final 10 minutes.

Chris Sutton believes James Tarkowski’s injury was the turning point, as he was forced off shortly after half-time.

David Moyes confirmed it was a hamstring injury, speaking in his post-match interview.

“(We just know) that he’s got a hamstring injury,” the Everton boss told the club website.

“It was quite obvious for everybody to see. So, obviously, we’ll assess it during the week, and we’ll see exactly how we are.”

Michael Keane replaced Tarkowski in the 52nd minute and it’s fair to say he endured a tough game.

Everton fans slam Michael Keane’s performance vs Man City

Everton fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to criticise Keane’s display in the 2-0 defeat against Man City.

@TheEvertonEnd posted: “Hopefully that’s a humble reminder to everyone that Michael Keane is one of the worst centre halves we’ve ever employed.”

@StuartWill1878 added: “Poor Sub, should of brought Patterson on.”

“We signed him in 2017, we’ve declined ever since, especially when he’s played. The WORST of the Moshiri era signings by a country mile. Slow, gets caught under the ball, clumsy tackles & turns like a bus. Absolutely s—-,” @LR_Dempsey commented.

@jonty1878 said: “I cannot think of one including in the under-21s that is worse! Good luck to him but I’d be surprised to see him in a top division ever again.”

“When Manchester City are lifting next season’s Champions League Trophy, they need to remember the contribution Michael Keane made to their success today,” @Lea_EFC posted.

@PaulBrownEFC commented: “I love Moyes but that Keane substitution was absolutely dreadful.”

Keane’s damning stats vs Man City

Keane’s statistics against the Citizens made for pretty poor reading, evincing exactly why many felt his substitution cost Everton the game.

Here they are as per Sofascore.

The 32-year-old lost three of his four duels and made two key errors leading to shots on goal, so any chance of his contract being renewed looks in tatters.

Keane’s deal is due to expire at the end of June, so he’s set to become a free agent after eight years at the club.
