Everton fans are seething at potential ‘failed’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin replacement

Everton are very light up front after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s departure on a free transfer.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has just announced his Everton exit, ending a nine-year stay on Merseyside, netting 71 goals in 273 appearances.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was ultimately plagued with injury in his final season at the club, so the reliance has been on Beto anyway.

However, David Moyes wants to upgrade on the towering centre-forward, and Villarreal’s Thierno Barry is being linked to Everton.

Now, there is another striker rumour emerging out of Everton, but fans certainly aren’t happy about it.

Everton fans seething at a potential Evan Ferguson transfer

Evan Ferguson has been on Moyes’ radar for a while, and it seems the Toffees are exploring a potential deal for the Republic of Ireland international, who is valued at around £28.

It’s fair to say, supporters aren’t thrilled by the link.

“He’s done nothing to prove to me that he’s any more than a squad player. What we need is a proven goalscorer to challenge Beto,” @Robster36 posted.

“Loan with an option all day long. Wouldn’t be spending money on him this summer. Bombed out at Brighton, not fancied. Then failed to make an impression at West Ham,” @aide_dews said.

@RobertS91163055 added: “Injury prone and isn’t prolific which for a striker is worrying.”

@blackfoot231 admitted: “I’m not convinced he’ll stay fit enough..”

“Can’t just go from losing one talented but massively injury prone no.9 to getting another one as a replacement,” @toffeegod explained.

“No thanks,” @PaulJCrook1 simply said.

Ferguson could be a decent option as a backup

Barry is expected to start if he completes a move from Villarreal, so that would make Beto the second-choice number nine.

Chermiti is reportedly of interest to Stoke City, so it looks like he could be heading out on loan, meaning Moyes does need a third-choice number nine.

If Ferguson were to come in purely as that, then it’s certainly an interesting signing as there’s no doubt he could improve and potentially become the main man on Merseyside one day.

It wasn’t so long ago that the 20-year-old was being touted as a £100m striker, so there’s evidently still a player in there.

Perhaps under Moyes’ stewardship, Ferguson could rediscover his best form.
